Is There an Adult Dyslexia Test?

When children experience problems writing or problems with language processing in kindergarten or throughout elementary school, there are tests that can be administered to identify and address those specific learning disabilities. But what is an adult to do, if they have the same problems? Is there an adult dyslexia test? The good news is that there are many websites online that offer such testing. It is low in cost and can be accessed from the privacy of one’s home. You can also go to a testing center, but this is often much more expensive.

In the past, people with learning disabilities often were relegated to more menial types of employment as they were perceived to not be intelligent enough for further education. In the past 50 years, persons who experience the many facets of dyslexia have been able to overcome and break though the seemingly insurmountable barrier that is dyslexia. An adult dyslexia test is the gateway through which one can pass into the wonderful world of grasping and understanding how we learn. No longer should anyone give up learning in frustration because the letter B looks just like the letter D!

While it is true that a learning disorder can make education somewhat more difficult, there are methods of teaching which have been developed to chip away at the barrier of dyslexia. The Slingerland Method is one, and it is still used in schools today. Lindamood-Bell is another teaching technique that has proven to be quite effective. It comes back to this, however: an adult dyslexia test is the starting point. This cannot be over emphasized. To teach someone how they learn, you must first identify their learning difficulties.

Students with disabilities should most definitely go through the process of the adult dyslexia test. This will answer the questions that they probably have been struggling with their entire lives – Do I have a disability? What is wrong with me? Why do I think one thing and write another? Why is it so hard for me to read? Getting tested will help get them started on their journey toward answers to those difficult questions. Perhaps all they need is just a little leg up – like reading a book while listening to the same thing on CD! Sometimes it is just that simple. Whatever the problem, there is almost always a good solution – it just has to be identified and a means of achieving the solution will then quickly follow!
